शनिदेव - shanidev
शनिदेव, सुर्य के पुत्र तथा यमराज के भाई हैं। शिवजी इनके गुरु हैं तथा शिवजी की आदेशानुसार हीं ये दुष्टों को दण्ड देने का कार्य करते हैं। लेकिन कभी भी बेकसूर मनुष्यों को दण्ड नहीं देते। शिवजी तथा हनुमान जी के भक्तों को शनिदेव कभी कष्ट नहीं पहुँचाते।
शनिदेव का अवतरण :-
पुराणों के अनुसार सुर्यदेव की पाँच पत्निया है – प्रभा, संध्या, रात्रि, बड़वा और छाया। संध्या की तीन संतानें है- वैवस्त मनु, यम और यमुना। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि सुर्यदेव की पत्नी संध्या, सुर्य के तेज को नहीं सहन कर पाती थी । जिससे उसे बहुत कष्ट सहना पड़ता था और वह अपने को अंतर्निहित करने का विचार करने लगी। उसने अपने ही रूप रंग जैसा एक प्रतिरूप स्त्री बनाया और उसे “छाया” नाम दिया । इसके बाद संध्या, उस छाया को सुर्यदेव के पास छोड़कर, स्वयं बड़वा (घोड़ी) के रूप में सुमेरु पर्वत पर तपस्या को चले गई। जाते हुए संध्या ने छाया से वचन लिया कि वह उसके बच्चों का ख्याल रखेगी तथा इस रहस्य को सुर्य के समक्ष प्रकट नहीं करेगी। छाया ने कहा – “सुर्य जब तक मेरा केश पकड़कर न पूछेंगे, तब तक मैं नहीं कहूंगी ।” बहुत समय तक सुर्य छाया को ही संध्या समझते रहे। छाया के सावर्णि मनु, शनैश्चर (शनि), ताप्ती नदी और विष्टी नाम की चार संताने हुई ।
कुछ समय बीतने पर छाया ने अपने और संध्या के बच्चों में भेद करना शुरु कर दिया। इस को वैवस्तु मनु इस भेद को नहीं सहन कर पाये और अपने पिता सुर्यदेव से शिकायत की। तब सुर्यदेव ने संध्या रूपी छाया से इसका कारण पूछा, लेकिन संतोषजनक उत्तर नहीं मिल पाने पर, उसके बाल पकड़ लिये और क्रोधपूर्वक सत्य बतलाने को कहा। तब संध्या रूपी छाया ने कहा- “आपके वास्तविक पत्नी संध्या अपने स्थान पर मुझे छोड़कर, स्वयं बड़वा का रूप धारण कर कहीं चली गई है।” इसके बाद से ही सुर्यदेव ने छाया और उसके पुत्रों का तिरस्कार करना प्रारम्भ कर दिया ।
भगवान शिव से शनिदेव का युद्ध तथा शिवजी को गुरु के रूप में पाना:-
शनिदेव के काले रंग और कुरुप होने के कारण, सुर्यदेव हमेशा उसका तिरस्कार करते रहते थे। सुर्यदेव ने अपने पुत्रों के वयस्क हो जाने पर एक-एक ग्रह का स्वामित्व दे दिया। शनि ग्रह का आधिपत्य शनिदेव को मिला। परंतु शनि देव सभी ग्रह पर अपना अधिकार चाहते थे । इसके लिये शनिदेव ने सभी ग्रह पर आक्रमण की योजना बनाई । जब सुर्य के समझाने अप्र शनिदेव नहीं माने तब सुर्यदेव शिवा जी के पास गये। शिव जी ने अपने गणों को शनिदेव को समझाने के लिये भेजा और नहीं मानने पर दण्ड देने के लिये भी कहा। शनिदेव ने सभी गणों से युद्ध कर उन्हें बंदी बना लिया। यह देखकर शिवा जी को अत्यधिक क्रोध आया और शनिदेव को अपने त्रिशूल से मूर्छित कर दिया।
पुत्र की यह दशा देखकर, सुर्यदेव शिवजी की अराधना करने लगे और शनिदेव को जीवित करने को कहा। अत: शिवजी ने सुर्यदेव की अराधना से प्रसन्न होकर शनिदेव को जीवित कर दिया। जीवित होकर, शनिदेव ने शिव जी की अनेकों तरह से स्तुति की और उनसे विनती की कि शिवजी, शनिदेव को अपना शिष्य बना लें। शिवजी ने शनिदेव को अपना शिष्य बना लिया और अनेकों उपदेश दिये। शिवजी ने शनिदेव को आदेश दिया कि अपने शक्ति का अनुचित उपयोग न करें। संत-पुरुषों को कभी तंग न करें, परंतु दुष्ट पापी को उचित दण्ड अवश्य दें। शिवजी ने शनिदेव को पापियों को दण्ड देने के कार्य पर नियुक्त किया ।
यमराज और यमुना के भाई :-
शनिदेव की माता छाया, संध्या की हीं प्रतिरूप है इसलिये, शनिदेव को यमराज और यमुना का सगा भाई कहते हैं । शनिदेव की नियमित अराधना करने वालों पर यमराज भी अपनी कृपादृष्टि बनाये रखते हैं।
हनुमानजी के सखा :-
रामायण में ऐसा उल्लेख है कि रावण ने सभी ग्रहों के साथ शनिदेव को भी काल कोठरी में बंद कर रखा था। जब हनुमान जी सीता माता की खोज करते हुए लंका पहुँचे। तब उन्होंने शनिदेव सहित अन्य बंदियों को भी काल-कोठरी से मुक्त करवाया था। इस पर प्रसन्न हो कर शनिदेव ने हनुमान जी से कहा- हे महावीर! आपने मुझे बंधन मुक्त किया है। मैं आपके भक्तों पर सदैव दयापूर्ण दृष्टि रखूंगा और उनके बंधनों को काटता रहूंगा। आपने मुझे बंधन्मुक्त कर मेरी शक्तियाँ लौटा दे है। अब मैं लंका और रावण पर कुदृष्टि डालकर उसे बर्बाद करता हूं ।
इसी कारण से शनिवार का दिन हनुमान जी की पूजा-अराधना का भी विशिष्ट दिन है।
Revision of Shani Dev: -
According to the Puranas, Suryadev has five wives - Prabha, Sandhya, Ratra, Barwa and Chhaya. Sandhya has three children - Vaivasta Manu, Yama and Yamuna. It is said that Sandhya, wife of Suryadev, could not bear the glory of Surya. Due to which she had to suffer a lot and she started thinking of underlying herself. She created a replica woman like her own color and named her "Chhaya". After this Sandhya, leaving that shadow to Suryadeva, went to austerities on the Sumeru mountain in the form of Barwa (horse) himself. While leaving, Sandhya vowed to Shadow that she would take care of her children and would not reveal this secret to Surya. Chhaya said - "Surya will not say until I hold my hair and ask." Surya considered Chhaya for a long time. Chhaya had four children named Savarni Manu, Shanaishcher (Shani), Tapti River and Vishti.
After some time, Chhaya started distinguishing between her and Sandhya's children. Vaivastu Manu could not bear this distinction and complained to his father Suryadev. Then Suryadev asked Sandhya's shadow as to the reason for this, but after not getting a satisfactory answer, grabbed her hair and angrily asked her to tell the truth. Then Chhaya in the form of Sandhya said- "Your real wife Sandhya, leaving me in her place, has gone somewhere in the form of Barwa herself." From then onwards Suryadev started to despise Chhaya and his sons.
The battle of Lord Shiva with Lord Shani and getting Shivji as Guru: -
Due to the dark complexion and appearance of Shanidev, Suryadev always used to despise him. Suryadev gave ownership of each planet when his sons became adults. Shani Dev got the suzerainty of Saturn. But Shani Dev wanted his authority over all the planets. For this, Shanidev planned to attack all the planets. When Suryadev did not agree to explain Surya, then Suryadev went to Shiva. Shiva sent his people to convince Shani Dev and asked them to punish if they did not agree. Shanidev fought with all the Ganas and took them captive. Seeing this, Shiva ji was very angry and made Shanidev unconscious with his trident.
Seeing this condition of the son, Suryadev started worshiping Shiva and asked him to bring Shani Dev alive. Therefore, Lord Shiva resurrected Shanidev by being pleased with the worship of Suryadev. Being alive, Shanidev praised Shiva in many ways and pleaded with him that Shiva should make Shani Dev his disciple. Shivji made Shani Dev his disciple and gave many sermons. Shivji ordered Shanidev not to use his power improperly. Never harass saints and men, but give proper punishment to the evil sinner. Shivji appointed Shanidev on the task of punishing the sinners.
Yamraj and Yamuna's brother: -
Shani, the mother of Shani Dev, is the only copy of the evening, therefore, Shanidev is called Yamraj and Yamuna's real brother. On those who worship Shani Dev regularly, Yamraj also maintains his blessings.
Hanumanji's friend : -
It is mentioned in the Ramayana that Ravana kept Shanidev in the dungeon along with all the planets. When Hanuman ji reached Lanka searching for Sita Mata. Then he also freed other prisoners including Shanidev from the dungeon. Pleased on this, Shanidev said to Hanuman ji - O Mahavira! You have freed me. I will always keep a compassionate view on your devotees and keep cutting their shackles. You have freed me and returned my powers. Now I destroy Lanka and Ravana by putting a blind eye on him.
For this reason, Saturday is also a special day of worship of Lord Hanuman.
