Skanda Mata - the fifth day of Navratri Skandmata (Sanskrit: Skandamata) is the fifth form of the Hindu goddess Durga. Literally meaning Mother of Skanda, her name comes from the word, Skanda is another name for the God of War and her son Kartikeya and Mother's name is Mother. As one of the Navadurga, she is worshiped on the fifth day of Navratri (the nine divine nights of Navadurga). Skandamata is four-armed and rides on a lion. She carries lotus, water content and vine. He has one hand in the blessing posture. Lord Skanda can be seen in his lap. He has four arms, two of which have lotus flowers. Her one hand is always in a boon gesture and with the other she holds her son Skanda in her lap. He is white in color and sits on a lotus. So, she is also called Goddess with lotus-asan (Padmasana). The lion is his vehicle.
