प्रदोष व्रत को हम त्रयोदशी व्रत के नाम से भी जानते हैं। यह व्रत माता पार्वती और भगवान शिव को समर्पित है। पुराणों के अनुसार इस व्रत को करने से बेहतर स्वास्थ और लम्बी आयु की प्राप्ति होती है। शास्त्रों के अनुसार प्रदोष व्रत एक साल में कई बार आता है। प्रायः यह व्रत महीने में दो बार आता है।

क्या है प्रदोष व्रत?
प्रत्येक महीने की कृष्ण पक्ष और शुक्ल पक्ष को त्रयोदशी मनाते है। प्रत्येक पक्ष की त्रयोदशी के व्रत को प्रदोष व्रत कहा जाता है। सूर्यास्त के बाद और रात्रि के आने से पहले का समय प्रदोष काल कहलाता है। इस व्रत में भगवान शिव कि पूजा की जाती है। हिन्दू धर्म में व्रत, पूजा-पाठ, उपवास आदि को काफी महत्व दी गयी है। ऐसा माना जाता है कि सच्चे मन से व्रत रखने पर व्यक्ति को मनचाहे वस्तु की प्राप्ति होती है। वैसे तो हिन्दू धर्म में हर महीने की प्रत्येक तिथि को कोई न कोई व्रत या उपवास होते हैं लेकिन लेकिन इन सब में प्रदोष व्रत की बहुत मान्यता है।

शास्त्रों के अनुसार महीने की दोनों पक्षों की त्रयोदशी तिथि में शाम के समय को प्रदोष कहा गया है। ऐसी मान्यता है कि भगवान शिव प्रदोष के समय कैलाश पर्वत स्थित अपने रजत भवन में नृत्य करते हैं। इसी वजह से लोग शिव जी को प्रसन्न करने के लिए इस दिन प्रदोष व्रत रखते हैं। इस व्रत को करने से सारे कष्ट और हर प्रकार के दोष मिट जाते हैं। कलयुग में प्रदोष व्रत को करना बहुत मंगलकारी होता है और शिव कृपा प्रदान करता है। सप्ताह के सातों दिन किये जाने वाले प्रदोष व्रत का विशेष महत्व है। प्रदोष को कई जगहों पर अलग-अलग नामों द्वारा जाना जाता है। दक्षिण भारत में लोग प्रदोष को प्रदोषम के नाम से जानते हैं।

अलग-अलग तरह के प्रदोष व्रत और उनसे मिलने वाले लाभ
प्रदोष व्रत का अलग-अलग दिन के अनुसार अलग-अलग महत्व है। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि जिस दिन यह व्रत आता है उसके अनुसार इसका नाम और इसके महत्व बदल जाते हैं।

अलग-अलग वार के अनुसार प्रदोष व्रत के निम्नलिखित लाभ प्राप्त होते है-

●  जो उपासक रविवार को प्रदोष व्रत रखते हैं, उनकी आयु में वृद्धि होती है अच्छा स्वास्थ्य लाभ प्राप्त होता है।
●  सोमवार के दिन के प्रदोष व्रत को सोम प्रदोषम या चन्द्र प्रदोषम भी कहा जाता है और इसे मनोकामनायों की पूर्ती करने के लिए किया जाता है।
●  जो प्रदोष व्रत मंगलवार को रखे जाते हैं उनको भौम प्रदोषम कहा जाता है। इस दिन व्रत रखने से हर तरह के रोगों से मुक्ति मिलती है और स्वास्थ सम्बन्धी समस्याएं नहीं होती। बुधवार के दिन इस व्रत को करने से हर तरह की कामना सिद्ध होती है।
●  बृहस्पतिवार के दिन प्रदोष व्रत करने से शत्रुओं का नाश होता है।
●  वो लोग जो शुक्रवार के दिन प्रदोष व्रत रखते हैं, उनके जीवन में सौभाग्य की वृद्धि होती है और दांपत्य जीवन में सुख-शांति आती है।
●  शनिवार के दिन आने वाले प्रदोष व्रत को शनि प्रदोषम कहा जाता है और लोग इस दिन संतान प्राप्ति की चाह में यह व्रत करते हैं। अपनी इच्छाओं को ध्यान में रख कर प्रदोष व्रत करने से फल की प्राप्ति निश्चित हीं होती है।

प्रदोष व्रत का महत्व
प्रदोष व्रत को हिन्दू धर्म में बहुत शुभ और महत्वपूर्ण माना जाता है। इस दिन पूरी निष्ठा से भगवान शिव की अराधना करने से जातक के सारे कष्ट दूर होते हैं और मृत्यु के बाद उसे मोक्ष की प्राप्ति होती है। पुराणों के अनुसार एक प्रदोष व्रत करने का फल दो गायों के दान जितना होता है। इस व्रत के महत्व को वेदों के महाज्ञानी सूतजी ने गंगा नदी के तट पर शौनकादि ऋषियों को बताया था। उन्होंने कहा था कि कलयुग में जब अधर्म का बोलबाला रहेगा, लोग धर्म के रास्ते को छोड़ अन्याय की राह पर जा रहे होंगे उस समय प्रदोष व्रत एक माध्यम बनेगा जिसके द्वारा वो शिव की अराधना कर अपने पापों का प्रायश्चित कर सकेगा और अपने सारे कष्टों को दूर कर सकेगा। सबसे पहले इस व्रत के महत्व के बारे में भगवान शिव ने माता सती को बताया था, उसके बाद सूत जी को इस व्रत के बारे में महर्षि वेदव्यास जी ने सुनाया, जिसके बाद सूत जी ने इस व्रत की महिमा के बारे में शौनकादि ऋषियों को बताया था।

प्रदोष व्रत अन्य दूसरे व्रतों से अधिक शुभ और महत्वपूर्ण माना जाता है। मान्यता यह भी है इस दिन भगवान शिव की पूजा करने से जीवनकाल में किये गए सभी पापों का नाश होता है और मृत्यु के बाद मोक्ष की प्राप्ति होती है। पुराणों के अनुसार एक प्रदोष व्रत रखने का पुण्य दो गाय दान करने जितना होता है।इस व्रत में व्रती को निर्जल रहकर व्रत रखना होता है। प्रातः काल स्नान करके भगवान शिव की बेल पत्र, गंगाजल अक्षत धूप दीप सहित पूजा करें। संध्या काल में पुन: स्नान करके इसी प्रकार से शिव जी की पूजा करना चाहिए। इस प्रकार प्रदोषम व्रत करने से व्रती को पुण्य मिलता है।

प्रदोष व्रत की विधि
शाम का समय प्रदोष व्रत पूजन समय के लिए अच्छा माना जाता है क्यूंकि हिन्दू पंचांग के अनुसार सभी शिव मन्दिरों में शाम के समय प्रदोष मंत्र का जाप करतेहैं।

चलिए आपको बताते हैं प्रदोष व्रत के नियम और विधि–

●  प्रदोष व्रत करने के लिए सबसे पहले आप त्रयोदशी के दिन सूर्योदय से पहले उठ जाएं।
●  स्नान आदि करने के बाद आप साफ़ वस्त्र पहन लें।
●  उसके बाद आप बेलपत्र, अक्षत, दीप, धूप, गंगाजल आदि से भगवान शिव की पूजा करें।
●  इस व्रत में भोजन ग्रहण नहीं किया जाता है।
●  पूरे दिन का उपवास रखने के बाद सूर्यास्त से कुछ देर पहले दोबारा स्नान कर लें और सफ़ेद रंग का वस्त्र धारण करें।
●  आप स्वच्छ जल या गंगा जल से पूजा स्थल को शुद्ध कर लें।
●  अब आप गाय का गोबर ले और उसकी मदद से मंडप तैयार कर लें।
●  पांच अलग-अलग रंगों की मदद से आप मंडप में रंगोली बना लें।
●  पूजा की सारी तैयारी करने के बाद आप उतर-पूर्व दिशा में मुंह करके कुशा के आसन पर बैठ जाएं।
●  भगवान शिव के मंत्र ऊँ नम: शिवाय का जाप करें और शिव को जल चढ़ाएं।

धार्मिक दृष्टिकोण से आप जिस दिन भी प्रदोष व्रत रखना चाहते हों, उस वार के अंतर्गत आने वाली त्रयोदशी को चुनें और उस वर के लिए निर्धारित कथा पढ़ें और सुनें।

प्रदोष व्रत का उद्यापन
जो उपासक इस व्रत को ग्यारह या फिर 26 त्रयोदशी तक रखते हैं, उन्हें इस व्रत का उद्यापन विधिवत तरीके से करना चाहिए।

●  व्रत का उद्यापन आप त्रयोदशी तिथि पर ही करें।
●  उद्यापन करने से एक दिन पहले श्री गणेश की पूजा की जाती है। और उद्यापन से पहले वाली रात को कीर्तन करते हुए जागरण करते हैं।
●  अगलर दिन सुबह जल्दी उठकर मंडप बनाना होता है और उसे वस्त्रों और रंगोली से सजाया जाता है।
●  ऊँ उमा सहित शिवाय नम: मंत्र का 108 बार जाप करते हुए हवन करते हैं।
●  खीर का प्रयोग हवन में आहूति के लिए किया जाता है।
●  हवन समाप्त होने के बाद भगवान शिव की आरती और शान्ति पाठ करते हैं।
●  और अंत में दो ब्रह्माणों को भोजन कराया जाता है और अपने इच्छा और सामर्थ्य अनुसार दान दक्षिणा देते हुए उनसे आशीर्वाद लेते हैं।

प्रदोष व्रत कथा
किसी भी व्रत को करने के पीछे कोई न कोई पौराणिक महत्व और कथा अवश्य होती है। तो चलिए जानते हैं इस व्रत की पौराणिक कथा के बारे में -

स्कंद पुराण में दी गयी एक कथा के अनुसार प्राचीन समय की बात है। एक विधवा ब्राह्मणी अपने बेटे के साथ रोज़ाना भिक्षा मांगने जाती और संध्या के समय तक लौट आती। हमेशा की तरह एक दिन जब वह भिक्षा लेकर वापस लौट रही थी तो उसने नदी किनारे एक बहुत ही सुन्दर बालक को देखा लेकिन ब्राह्मणी नहीं जानती थी कि वह बालक कौन है और किसका है ?

दरअसल उस बालक का नाम धर्मगुप्त था और वह विदर्भ देश का राजकुमार था। उस बालक के पिता को जो कि विदर्भ देश के राजा थे, दुश्मनों ने उन्हें युद्ध में मौत के घाट उतार दिया और राज्य को अपने अधीन कर लिया। पिता के शोक में धर्मगुप्त की माता भी चल बसी और शत्रुओं ने धर्मगुप्त को राज्य से बाहर कर दिया। बालक की हालत देख ब्राह्मणी ने उसे अपना लिया और अपने पुत्र के समान ही उसका भी पालन-पोषण किया

कुछ दिनों बाद ब्राह्मणी अपने दोनों बालकों को लेकर देवयोग से देव मंदिर गई, जहाँ उसकी भेंट ऋषि शाण्डिल्य से हुई।ऋषि शाण्डिल्य एक विख्यात ऋषि थे, जिनकी बुद्धि और विवेक की हर जगह चर्चा थी।

ऋषि ने ब्राह्मणी को उस बालक के अतीत यानि कि उसके माता-पिता के मौत के बारे में बताया, जिसे सुन ब्राह्मणी बहुत उदास हुई। ऋषि ने ब्राह्मणी और उसके दोनों बेटों को प्रदोष व्रत करने की सलाह दी और उससे जुड़े पूरे वधि-विधान के बारे में बताया। ऋषि के बताये गए नियमों के अनुसार ब्राह्मणी और बालकों ने व्रत सम्पन्न किया लेकिन उन्हें यह नहीं पता था कि इस व्रत का फल क्या मिल सकता है।

कुछ दिनों बाद दोनों बालक वन विहार कर रहे थे तभी उन्हें वहां कुछ गंधर्व कन्याएं नजर आईं जो कि बेहद सुन्दर थी। राजकुमार धर्मगुप्त अंशुमती नाम की एक गंधर्व कन्या की ओर आकर्षित हो गए। कुछ समय पश्चात् राजकुमार और अंशुमती दोनों एक दूसरे को पसंद करने लगे और कन्या ने राजकुमार को विवाह हेतु अपने पिता गंधर्वराज से मिलने के लिए बुलाया। कन्या के पिता को जब यह पता चला कि वह बालक विदर्भ देश का राजकुमार है तो उसने भगवान शिव की आज्ञा से दोनों का विवाह कराया।

राजकुमार धर्मगुप्त की ज़िन्दगी वापस बदलने लगी। उसने बहुत संघर्ष किया और दोबारा अपनी गंधर्व सेना को तैयार किया। राजकुमार ने विदर्भ देश पर वापस आधिपत्य प्राप्त कर लिया।

कुछ समय बाद उसे यह मालूम हुआ कि बीते समय में जो कुछ भी उसे हासिल हुआ है वह ब्राह्मणी और राजकुमार धर्मगुप्त के द्वारा किये गए प्रदोष व्रत का फल था। उसकी सच्ची आराधना से प्रसन्न होकर भगवान शिव ने उसे जीवन की हर परेशानी से लड़ने की शक्ति दी। उसी समय से हिदू धर्म में यह मान्यता हो गई कि जो भी व्यक्ति प्रदोष व्रत के दिन शिवपूजा करेगा और एकाग्र होकर प्रदोष व्रत की कथा सुनेगा और पढ़ेगा उसे सौ जन्मों तक कभी किसी परेशानी या फिर दरिद्रता का सामना नहीं करना पड़ेगा।

What is Pradosha fast?
Each month celebrates Trayodashi on Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha. The fast of the Trayodashi of each party is called Pradosh Vrat. The time after sunset and before nightfall is called Pradosh Kaal. Lord Shiva is worshiped in this fast. Fasting, worship, fasting etc. have been given great importance in Hinduism. It is believed that by keeping a fast with a true mind, a person gets what he wants. Although there is some fast or fast on every date of every month in Hinduism, but Pradosh Vrat is very much recognized in all of them.

According to the scriptures, the evening time is called Pradosh in the Trayodashi date of both sides of the month. Different types of Pradosha fast and benefits from them
Pradosh Vrat has different importance according to different day. It is said that according to the day this fast falls, its name and its importance change.

The following benefits of Pradosh fast according to different times are:

● The worshipers who keep Pradosha fast on Sunday increase their lifespan and get good health benefits.
● Monday's Pradosha fast is also called Soma Pradosham or Chandra Pradosham and it is done to fulfill wishes.
● The Pradosha fast which is kept on Tuesday are called Bhaum Pradosham. Fasting on this day relieves all kinds of diseases and does not cause health problems. By observing this fast on Wednesday, every kind of desire is proved.
● On Thursday, Pradosh fast eliminates enemies.
● Those people who keep Pradosha fast on Friday, there is an increase of good luck in their lives and happiness and peace comes in the married life.
● Pradosha fast, which falls on Saturday, is called Shani Pradosham and people do this fast in the desire of getting children on this day. Fasting Pradosha keeping your wishes in mind, results in certain results.

Importance of Pradosh Vrat
Pradosh Vrat is considered very auspicious and important in Hinduism. Worshiping Lord Shiva with full devotion on this day removes all the sufferings of the native and after death he attains salvation. ● To get Pradosh fast, first of all you get up before sunrise on the day of Trayodashi.
● After bathing, you should wear clean clothes.
● After that you should worship Lord Shiva with Belpatra, Akshat, Deep, Dhoop, Gangajal etc.
● Food is not taken in this fast.
● After fasting for the whole day, take a bath again before sunset and wear a white colored cloth.
● Cleanse the place of worship with clean water or Ganges water.
● Now take cow dung and with its help prepare the mandap.
● With the help of five different colors, make a Rangoli in the pavilion.
● After doing all the preparations for the puja, sit in the posture of Kusha with your mouth facing north-east.
● Mantra of Lord Shiva, Om Namah: Chant Shivaaya and offer water to Shiva.

From the religious point of view, on the day you want to keep Pradosha fast, choose the Trayodashi that falls under that war and read and listen to the story prescribed for that groom.

Promotion of Pradosh Vrat
The worshipers who keep this fast for eleven or 26 Trayodashi, should observe this fast in a proper way.

● You should observe the fast on the date of Trayodashi.
● Sri Ganesh is worshiped one day before the udipaana. And on the night before the Udaipan, do Kirtan and do Jagran.
● A pavilion has to be got up early in the morning on Aglar day and it is decorated with clothes and rangoli.
● Shivaay Nam with Uma Uma: Chanting mantra 108 times and perform Havan.
● Kheer is used for offering in havan.
● After the havan is over, Lord Shiva recites the aarti and peace.
● And in the end, two Brahmins are fed and take blessings from them by giving alms according to their wish and ability.

Pradosha fast story
There is a mythological importance and legend behind any fast. So let's know about the mythology of this fast -

According to a story given in Skanda Purana, it is a matter of ancient times. A widowed Brahmini used to go with her son daily to beg and return by evening. As usual, one day when she was returning with alms, she saw a very beautiful child on the river bank, but the Brahmin did not know who the boy was and whose?

Actually the name of that child was Dharmagupta and he was the prince of Vidarbha country. The father of the boy who was the king of Vidarbha, the enemies killed him in battle and took the kingdom under him. Dharmagupta's mother also passed away in mourning of the father and the enemies drove Dharmagupta out of the kingdom. Seeing the condition of the child, the Brahmin adopted him and took care of him like his son.

A few days later, Brahmani went to the Dev temple with his two children from Devyoga, where he met Rishi Shandilya. Rishi Shandilya was a noted sage, whose wisdom and prudence were discussed everywhere.

The sage told the Brahmin about the child's past, that is, the death of his parents, which the Brahmin was very sad to hear. The sage advised Brahmani and his two sons to perform Pradosh fast and explained the entire law and order related to it. According to the rules laid down by the sage, the Brahmin and the children performed the fast, but they did not know what could be the result of this fast.

After a few days both the boys were doing Van Vihar, then they saw some Gandharva girls there which was very beautiful. Prince Dharmagupta became attracted to a Gandharva girl named Anshumati. After some time both Rajkumar and Anshumati started liking each other and Kanya called Rajkumar to meet his father Gandharvaraja for marriage. When Kanya's father came to know that the child is the prince of Vidarbha country, he got them both married by the order of Lord Shiva.

The life of Prince Dharmagupta started changing back. He struggled a lot and rebuilt his Gandharva army. The prince regained control of the Vidarbha country.

After some time he came to know that whatever he has achieved in the past was the result of Pradosh Vrat done by Brahmani and Prince Dharmagupta. Pleased with his true worship, Lord Shiva gave him the power to fight every trouble in life. Since that time, it has been recognized in the Hindu religion that whoever will worship Shiv on the day of Pradosh, and after concentrating will listen to the story of Pradosh fast and will never face any trouble or poverty for a hundred births.
